What we collect:

• Account information: Email address, name (optional), authentication tokens from Google/Apple
• Nutrition data: Meals, calories, macros, photos you choose to upload, barcode scans
• Health data: Weight, goals, activity level, body measurements, progress photos
• Device data: Device type, OS version, app version, crash reports (no personal data)
• Camera & Photos: Only when you actively choose to scan meals or add photos
• Location data: None - we don't collect or track your location

2. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

We use your data to:

• Provide calorie tracking and nutrition analysis
• Calculate personalized calorie targets
• Show your progress and trends
• Improve our AI and app functionality

3. DATA STORAGE & SECURITY

Your data is stored:

• Locally on your device - Your data stays yours by default using AsyncStorage
• In secure cloud storage - If you choose to sync across devices via Convex
• With end-to-end encryption - Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest
• Secure authentication - Using Clerk for secure Google/Apple sign-in
• Photo storage - Meal photos are stored locally and optionally in secure cloud storage

4. DATA SHARING

We do NOT:

• Sell your personal data to third parties
• Share your data with advertisers
• Track your browsing or app usage for marketing
• Use your data for anything other than providing the service

5. YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to:

• Access your data - Download all your data anytime
• Delete your data - Remove all your data permanently
• Correct your data - Edit or update your information
• Opt out - Stop using the app and delete your account

6. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

We use a limited number of third-party services for essential functions:

• Authentication: Clerk for secure Google/Apple sign-in
• AI Analysis: Google AI for nutrition analysis and meal recognition
• Database: Convex for secure cloud data storage and sync
• Barcode Database: OpenFoodFacts for product nutrition information
• Analytics: PostHog for app usage analytics (no personal data)
• Crash Reporting: Expo for app stability monitoring

7. MOBILE APP PERMISSIONS

BruteCal requests these permissions:

• Camera: To scan meals and barcodes for nutrition tracking
• Photo Library: To import existing photos for meal logging
• Internet: To sync data and access nutrition databases
• Storage: To save your data locally on your device

We do NOT request:

• Location access - we don't track where you are
• Microphone access - we don't record audio
• Contacts access - we don't access your contacts
• Calendar access - we don't access your calendar

8. COOKIES & TRACKING

We use minimal cookies:

• Essential cookies for app functionality
• No tracking cookies or advertising pixels
• No cross-site tracking or fingerprinting

9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

BruteCal is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of BruteCal after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
